Podcast #193 – When It Rains . . .

We’ve had rain at Longleaf Breeze for 13 of the last 15 days, and we’re going just the tiniest bit insane. The total rainfall has been about seven inches, but that’s not the remarkable part. What has made this period remarkable is that we never dry out.

We’ve coped with the moisture in a variety of ways: using a dehumidifier indoors to keep mildew at bay, lots of showers to deal with our ever-present sweating, constant mowing to beat back the grass and weeds, and insect repellent to give incomplete protection against the determined hoards of mosquitoes.

Now we begin to ask ourselves, is farming now going to present a fascinating new obstacle every year for as long as we’re doing this? Is the “new normal” in this era of climate change going to be no normal?
